I'm wondering if anyone out there has a helmet they wear when draining or going into dark places. Mine is very basic, it has a headlamp and a go-pro and I'm wondering if anyone has a "specialized" helmet set up.

that is very sensible Peterh13! I've often wished I had a helmet on when I've cracked my head on a low pipe or drain.. ;( but we already carry so much stuff as it is, I don't think we can manage anything more.. We wear helmets when climbing and drift triking, but only head lamps when draining....

Can't say I've ever worn a helmet either. It also doesn't look very inconspicuous?

There are a few times in the past I wished I had a helmet, but still haven't gotten around to it haha.

I want a drift trike lol, but you should totally check out street luge. :D

I used to think wearing a helmet was overkill and silly, now I think I might get something awesome looking in case I go to a place where I may need it. My head still hurts when I remember that heavy steel hatch that banged down on me while I was climbing up the ladder.

I don't want to use it as a helmet so I don't bang my head, but more of a platform on which to mount lights and a camera and any other gadgets I can think of.

A road bicycle helmet or similar would be good. They tend to have a lot of ventilation which means many mounting surfaces and locking points.

Top Tip:

Don't waste money on a helmet, just walk behind someone taller than you. They'll let you know (possibly with a shriek) when there's something to look out for, and as an added bonus they'll clean up most of the spider webs for you!

I use one of these when mine exploring, although I think it's been discontinued.
