Kia ora from Wellington, NZ ...
Midget told me I had to post here to prove I'm not a murderer so here goes:
For the past two years, I've been living in an abandoned Catholic girls boarding school here in the capital. Am equally fond of draining and ground-level explores but have yet to try rooftopping.
By night I work as a journalist, which opens many doors in getting access to sites on this side of the ditch.
You can see some of my pix on Instragram (@kjwxkjwx).
Will be in Melbourne come April and can't wait to explore. For work, I've already organised to shoot the tunnels under Royal Melbourne Hospital and possibly Pentridge.
Suggestions on places to other places to visit will be gratefully accepted.
And just for the record, I don't kill people. I do, however, have magnetic and RFID super powers thanks to several implants in my hands.
Thanks, K

But welcome to the forums (again), and please tell us about the abandonment you've been living in. Sometimes I hear stories of explorers going overseas and just sleeping on rooftops to save money as well. I'm too much of a potato wallowing in luxury to do that. :D

How'd you organise to get access to the tunnels under RMH? Can I come by any chance really wanted to check those out.
Wander often. Wonder always.

I was tempted to stay a night in a abandoned research complex before it got demolished a year ago but just never got around to it. Had running water, working toilets and showers as well - was even able to charge my camera battery and LED floodlight inside :). Only problem was how to sleep with the creepy noises coming from the air-conditioning.
Just a harmless explorer. No need to waste taxes checking me ;)

Now I have the opposite problem: Find it hard to sleep without the semi-regular chirp of a nearly-dead smoke alarm or four.

Think that can be arranged, Echo. Organised my visit to RMH - which is the morning of April 23 or 24 BTW - through my job. Hopefully you'll be free around then to play tour guide and I can return the favour at the hospital. Will flick you a PM, think I have some paperwork you might be interested in.

Am actually writing about home for UE Mag.
Erskine's a former Catholic girl's boarding school that a local developer bought a decade ago, thinking he'd make a mint.
But the place is governed by a trust which has final say on what he can do.
Rather than have the place stand completely empty, he let one of his sons move into the old teachers' accommodation wing - now there are 11 of us here sharing the place with hundreds of pigeons.
Rent is super cheap but the owner won't provide security so we spend a lot of time kicking vandals/taggers/scrap thieves out.
I've certainly met a lot of explorers since moving in. Best story I have is of one tenant finding a group filming a Disney-themed porno in the college gym early one Sunday; obviously the videographer and his princess-attired models got to finish first before being asked to leave.
There are several disadvantages - like constant police visits, finding strangers rifling through our cupboards, vandals turning off power to the entire complex, and it being difficult to get mail delivered - but I love it.
Have seen photos of people sleeping on rooftops at Chernobyl/Pripyat but it's not for me; I need coffee and a hot shower to truly wake up.
Had originally been planning to visit Ukraine this year but the war, and the fact foreign journalists are never very welcome there, meant I decided to see Melbourne instead.

Apparently there's footage online somewhere but I've yet to find it.

Sounds cool :)
Are you more interested in drains or abandonments, just trying to think of what locations are best to show you.

Like both equally but probably abandonments please ... We don't have too many derelict sites here in Wellington so I'm picking I'll be green with envy throughout my entire visit.
Just learnt about the Atlantis Theme Park in Perth earlier today, dammit. Guess I'll be visiting there next time I jump the ditch.

Will see what I can do, Crispex ...
If Echo manages to join me, maybe we can sweet-talk the RMH rep into letting him hold a meetup there? That way everybody that wanted to could attend.

I wish ... Have spent many a night at work looking online for the damn thing with no joy - and I speak pretty fluent Google.
The vision of one skanky Disney princess in blue is permanently seared into my brain. Don't think I'll ever be able to watch one of Walt's movies again.

Ah well, there are worse things that will ruin your childhood.
