Well, what do you like to explore and where are you located. If someone is situated near you they may be willing to take you on a tour.
Otherwise, if you explain what kind of sites you are interested in (abandos, drains, roofs etc) then I (or someone else) may be able to provide you with some locations or info regarding it.

In my Urbex bag;
-2 torches and spare batteries, CB radio, small first aid kit, water, protein bar or 2, phone, GoPros, spare batteries for them and a camera. I also carry a small tripod.
In my car I generally have a spare set of clothes, shoes, jump starter, blankets and more food. God damn I get hungry on an explore!
I guess, basically, just be safe and have fun! Make sure someone you trust knows where you are and just keep in touch via a quick SMS every now and then.

The ultimate rule in draining is 'when it rains, no drains'. If there's a chance of rain, don't venture up there. This is how most draining related deaths have occurred. I can think of at least five fatalities from flooding drains off the top of my head (though only two of these involved an explorer). I can think of numerous injuries and one death from exploring in topsides.
When I started exploring, I only took a couple of torches, spare batteries and sturdy footwear. You don't need much more than that. I don't recommend carrying tools of any kind, they open up further legal liability. I use my phone for photos.
Eventually I started to take things like waders with me in the car, but I can't recommend the minimal approach enough.
