I'm asthmatic and am trying to decide if i should invest in a respirator.
recently I've been looking into a canister half face respirator, they aren't cheap but it seems like a useful thing to have.

Do you find find it useful to have a proper respirator, or would the disposable masks do the job just fine?

Are the disposable masks good enough to use for asbestos??

P2 disposable masks are theoretically good enough to block asbestos particles. I carry a pair in my backpack.

If you're male with facial hair, however, this can impair mask function.

On the rare occasions where I've explored areas with high amounts of displaced asbestos, I usually wear old clothes I can bag up and bin or hose off easily.

Unless you need one for work or explore every second day, half-face respirators are probably overkill (and make you look super suss/daggy if you get caught).

Something I've looked at doing in the past was exploring semi-exposed abandonments after heavy rain, if there's much asbestos in the exposed areas the particles will get waterlogged and you might get exposed less. Then again, you might not.

Sundstrom SR90 are the best fitting and effective half face mask in my opinion, not cheap but are very good. A lot of asbestos removers use them with P3 particulate filters and pre filters fitted. About 130 bucks to set up...
