Canon ERR 01.

Good evening UEGA members,
I was just wondering if anyone has had similar difficulties as me and if anyone has managed to fix it. Basically, when ever I try to shoot long exposure photos, my canon EOS 40D comes up with an ERR 01, stating that the communication between the camera and lens is faulty. Also, the lens is an EFS 17-85mm Canon image stabilization lens. I have looked up possible remedies online, have cleaned the cameras contacts and the mirror but have had no succes. One thing is that may have happened is that it has been dropped by previous owners. If so and the lens is damaged, how much to get it repaired and where? I really want to get this fixed because for now, I have to borrow my friends lens to take long exposure flicks

Yeah mate it does. I'm fine with owning second-hand lenses if they work good and are the right price, but would rather just fix my current one if it is cheaper.

With that lens, it may be cheaper to replace than to fix. If you've already tested another lens, the cheapest option would be to buy a broken lens on Ebay, and transfer electronics/focus motor etc to your current lens. It's cheap but no guarantee it would 100% work. Lots of success stories though.
