Hi Guys,

My name is AJ and I new to the scene. I decide to look into abandoned place to visit, only to discover a whole community based around this as a hobby. I began looking for something new to try as I made a promise to myself that I would try something new and/or different at least once a week for a whole year. This might be a new food, visit a new part of town or try some activity I have never done before. I have been having so much fun with this that I find myself push my boundaries further and further.

My sister was watching a video of an abandoned house in America and that got me thinking, I wonder what is around my home town that has be forgotten or lost. I start searching just for addresses and quickly found that they are not given out due to these secret places being blocked off, trashed, demolished and much more. This has only spiked my curiosity. I love the idea of visiting a place that very few people know of or go to. I completely understand why these locations are kept from the general public and I would want to do the same if I had knowledge of any.

So I have decided to check this type of community to find out what it is all about before I go hunting. I like to think that the types of places the would interest me most would be, abandoned place of all sorts like, factories, breweries, house, shops, buildings, theme parks, mansions and castles. ( I don't expect to find and castles in Aus haha) I feel interested enough in this as a hobby already, that hopefully one day I can travel to see the lost part of the world.

So please do strike up a chat with me if your new too or if you've been on the scene for a while. I would love to hear why you do it, what it means to you and what type of places interest you.

AJ :)

Hi :)

Thank you. So do people go on these hunts for the sake of photography or for the hunt or both? Is parkour intwined with this?

Good question.

Depends on the explorer.
I'm more for the hunt, and take pics just for the record.
Some others are chasing the perfect picture/location/lighting/mood.
Some are looking for bragging rights, or just a rush :)

Many reasons!

Not so much parkour on our forum, but we would welcome it I'm sure.

Great introductory post, not many of those around. Personally I explore for the sake of photography, but I would still find it interesting even if I didn't bring my camera.
