Has anyone missed anything that was active and suddenly got demolished within a very short period (say 3-6 months)?

I'll start with this one.

Passed through this after exploring another abando nearby (also gone) around end of 2013. Did hear active machinery inside some buildings but I noticed the rear looked devoid of activity. This was near Ryde as mentioned in one of the threads.

It now has a CBRE (CB richard ellis) EOI banner sitting outside the empty lot.

Am sure that CBRE hates seeing stuff abandoned and crawling with urban explorers so decided to spend the money and demolish instead to shut everyone out.

Wished I had paid more attention to this place earlier as it would of been a pretty good explore.

Have a few more which I will post later

In meantime post pics as above with the streetview screen cap before/after.

Oooooh yes this is a very good idea!! I have lots of these sad stories.

My sister used to work at John Wesley Gardens in Geebung before it closed, sitting vacant for two years with all the power still on.

1. I drove by in Jan 2015 and saw this...
Image

2. To return a month later and was greeted by this (they kept the church)

I was spewing... not as much as I was this morning though.

Also, there is this building near the Rocklea markets I found out about all too late.

Doesn't count as you explored it :). Although maybe we should start one of those "in memory of" soon.

Anyway this is one I saw as a kid in the 80's when I did a bit of bushwalking in the area by myself while my parents worked at the chinese restaurant. Saw a few kids/teens climb up the storage tank but never dared going myself that time as I was way too young and wasn't sure about those kids there. Apparently it was used for manufacturing plastics during the war years.

Now not much of it exists in its current form. As far as I know from my subsequent visits before the chinese restaurant closed the tank and possibly the factory stood abandoned until it was demo'd in the mid 90's.

The only image exists in a old aerial map that I dug out so here it is:

I managed to visit it some time ago on a road trip to see if there are traces of it. But there are security cameras all over this place now including that luverly lake and bridge if anyone was inclined to bring a inflatable and do a float out :). The company occupying this site is from Merika who, like everyone else there, is obsessed about security and monitoring.

Reload the topic if some images aren't appearing - just fyi. Might be some issue with dropbox.

Back to the current situation as opposed to something that happened a long time ago.

Few months ago this auction storage warehouse in the CBD looked quiet. So after a pub crawl I decided to stop by and check. I did think about scaling the fence but decided against it after not feeling well from my drinks session. Later I saw a cop car coming into the parking lot meaning this could be where junkies hangout too.

So instead of sussing this place more, the next day I decided to go to that place everyone seems to be talking about now and the remnants of another abando in process of being sold with a few urbex friends.

That decision would prove fateful as I found out the week after :(

I'm surprised that no one here or outside Uega has explored it - guess it's those cop patrols.

Proves you don't really need to go out far to find something - just keep an eye out and commit to memory for the next trip so you know if it has been active.

So many sydney places... So little time... Maybe I should delegate a few? ;)

What exactly has changed in your photos...?

You certainly have lots of these to post, but I guess - "I did think about scaling the fence but decided against it after not feeling well from my drinks session." - is would be why ;)

Booze makes me unstoppable, which is why I have been so inactive since I went dry-ish plus I am becoming extremely picky with what I decide to explore and photograph.

So to level something out, here is a hoarder house I found in the Gabba. It was run down and falling apart and I was simply waiting for vacancy - then the temp fence went up... :o So I went to suss it out and encountered an open temp fence with a big white van parked on site next to the house that I had been watching that had no windows and an open door with thriving plants outside the door step and salt/pepper shakers ever so neatly stacked on the window sill ... I thought it was still inhabited so I came back two days later which was when

had become this:

I was so.

fcuking.

angry.

I could see from standing on the street that the sun room still had wardrobes full of clothes, and picture frames still on the walls. It was a hoarder house! So in a fit of rage I stormed up the road to another house, albeit boring and empty, although this one I had been dreaming about since I was a kid so I had a sentimentality with it ... anyway I was stomping around the balcony yelling at the doors and windows expecting none of them to be unlocked when suddenly the front door just popped open.

But wait.. there is more ... as I was looking at its development of decay over time, I noticed its neighbour was in fact once a quaint little Queenslander, then it was raised, built around and in front of where now it looks like ....!? Watch its transformation displayed below - who the serious fcuk in their right mind thinks of raping architectural aesthetic like this?

1. Its nothing to write home about but I'd take a 19th century/early 20th century timber cottage over anything contemporary any day. This was 2007.

2. August 2013

3. Its like watching someone turn in The Strain.

4. You'd probably be chased out of town if you attempted something like this in Switzerland or Scandanavia.

The roof was missing and the back was gone. They are slowly pulling it apart to build a new childcare centre but there's asbestos in it.

I see.. and a location having Asbestos in is effects you from documenting a location how?

I ran out of time as I was also checking another place earlier and was rushing back for an appointment and just thought I'd drive by to check.

I mentioned asbestos as a reason why they are pulling the place apart for the new childcare centre, not because of not going in to explore it.

Not sure if that counts. Maybe more clarification might help?

The kleenheat place in clyde had a CDC approved going back to 2008 which is why it didn't appear on my radar - I only search for the last 3 months of approvals. So they waited 6 years before finally going through with it. Can't believe it was so active all that long ago.
