For those of you wanting to re-create the longexposure.net / metawaffle /sven look for URBEX photos who used a mix of warm and cool white LED torches, there is an impressive high-CRI warm white (3000k CCT) LED torch currently on kickstarter.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/21 ... flashlight
Apart from P60 drop-ins, there are currently no other high-CRI warm white torches on the market.
It can use alkaline or NiMh AAs, or 14500 Li-ion battery. Brightness is suitable for URBEX photography.
I've already backed it!

Recreate other people's looks/photos? Just do your own thing! That said, sounds good will have a look later

It looks pretty good Light Knight. The people on CPF know what they are talking about so I'm sure it's a good product.

It certainly comes at a price though! And the tritium is radioactive??! I wonder if there are any long term effects of it! (Like if putting it in your pocket will lead to fertility issues!)

Maybe "inspired by" should been the wording.

The non-trit versions are pretty good value for money. I went for the black aluminium, with clip, and no trits version.
Tritium is a low energy beta emitter, and the photons cannot penetrate skin. Just don't eat the vials, or immediately inhale a broken vial. Still, being a radiation worker myself and thus paranoid, I'd still avoid keeping anything with trits in a pocket regularly.

This kickstarter project has been cancelled (despite nearly reaching its target with 20 days remaining), and the relaunched torch will sadly not use the warm white emitter. :(

so what does that mean for the backers - is it simply a pledge only if it goes ahead and they don't lose any coin?

Yes that's correct.

On Kickstarter you make a pledge, and only when a project reaches its funding target is the money taken from your credit card. You can also un-back a project at anytime until it reaches its funding target.

If the project is cancelled as in this case, the pledge is automatically cancelled.

However, not all crowd-funding websites work this way.

Shame. I was kind of sorta considering one of these.

Due to a tint snob flashaholic from candlepowerforum wanting a neutral white nichia emitter instead, and non-flashaholics wanting a horrible cool white "as bright as possible" light.

In my continuing quest for a high-CRI warm white torch, I have ordered this:
http://www.lumensfactory.com/online_sho ... =10&page=1
It's based on the P60/D26 modular system, so if I get bored with the warm white emitter I can replace it with another emitter. It uses either CR123A or 18650 batteries, which can be a good or bad thing.

Holy balls, Light Knight. Actual tritium? As in Hydrogen-3? As a beta-emitter it's fine behind glass but I certainly wouldn't want high energy electrons in my system. What if you drop it?
