Gday everyone, i am from Canberra and surrounds, and am new to the forum and new to the game, im more a fan of photography, and love taking shots of unique things, im interested in abandoned buildings, ghost towns, rooftops, mines things like that, drains dont interest me a heap, unless they offer contrasting views of a City for example, i love old abandoned places in country towns, and know of some promising spots around Canberra, hopefully i can add some value to the forum once i get out and about a bit, and hopefully can gain some as well, cheers.
Welcome!
Been to any spots yet or have photos to share? I think Im about the only (semi)active canberra member on here. Not much going abando around here these days, but hit me up if you ever want to go check some stuff out.
No not as yet, i only just found about this type of thing recently, generally i have been interested in mainly landscape type stuff, but thought i may be able to find and also add some spots once i get out and about, im actually injured at the moment so im doing a bit of recon, im actually from outside Canberra originally near Captains Flat, there would be a heap of stuff out there, old abandoned mines, and buildings i honestly havent been there in around 10 years, i might head out there soon, i will post if i find anything, i would imagine around Canberra, you would have more luck in Qbn and surrounding country towns as there is a bit longer history there. I know the Orphanage in Goulburn is good but i heard it burned down, im not too into tunnels but there is a big one that starts just downstream of the suspension bridge in Qbn and comes out near the police station, we used to go there as kids and wag school there, and have a bit of a choof there, we used to call it the 666 tunnel probably very dangerous if rain is around. The old Clancy's pub would have been good but it got knocked down, its hard in Canberra abandoned buildings dont stay abandoned for too long before some develope snaps them up, i wouldnt mind having a look around Woolongong some time maybe there is some old steelworks stuff ther, anyhow i will add to the forum if i find anything interesting.
Yeah G'day Midget, i just have a Nikon D600, with a Samyang 14mm, Nikon 50mm 1.8, and a nikon 300mm f4 af the oldish school version, im tossing up between some new lenses and changing systems, in a perfect world id love to rock an A7sii and A7rii, but that is a distant dream at the moment, id like to get the Nikon 20mm 1.8 though and a Macro lens at some stage, how about yourself?
Yeah the Samyang does cover the whole frame it is an fx specific lens, 14mm on fx is obviously 14mm but on a crop sensor i think its around 22mm or so, the Samyang i bought because i dabble in Astro, and it is about the best bang for your buck you can get for a Nikon its a 14mm lens 2.8 aperture, but it is manual focus, which is fine for landsape stuff you could use it on the A7 and use focus peaking anyway, mine cost me 200 off gumtree, it does have terrible distortion but there if you have dxo optics pro, it has a profile that fixes it up, i found a trial version and keygen on frostwire for that. The nikon 50mm 1.8 is a cheap and superb lens fast and good bokeh, 50 is not my favourite focal length but like the 35mm it is the do anything normal focal length, i prefer a 35mm on ff and will look at getting one. I got the 300mm because its handy in Canberra, because we are surrounded by mountains, i can isolate subjects with it like an old building on a mountain top or an old tree with the sunset behind it etc, im not the worlds best photographer, yet anyway, i just dabble in it for fun, but it is an addictive and actually pretty cheap hobby to be honest once you have a bit of gear, its more or a less a free hobby, so long as you buy wisely and dont let the gear bug bite you too hard.
