Did you just say that to impress us? "Motor car racing"? That's something somebody racing model T Fords in the 1920s would day. :)

What type or car and what class do you race?

I don't race, I just photograph and pit for the local classic mini guys.
This weekend was just a small club regularity event where a good friend of mine ran her car for the first time and i scrutineered cars which is a first for me.
Normally its group Nb / Nc

The cars outweigh the urbex here.

Ah cool Dan, what track you mainly haunt?
I used to race go-karts (mostly clubman light and sometimes heavy when I could fit the ballast) at Oran Park (before it closed) and Wollongong (club moved to Eastern Creek and sold the land). Mt Sugerloaf up in Newy is a very nice track.
I also paid to test a Van Diemen RF95 Formula Ford car with the intention of hiring it and a 3 man crew for an 8 race series (included transport and practice). In the end I couldn't secure funding ($30k) so I stuck with karts till I grew out of 'em and had kids and went broke etc. I had a CAMS license but it's expired now, my A.K.A permit is still valid.
I'd love to get back into it but my family and budget just won't allow it.

You have a Mini? BMC? Leyland? Austin? What size engine? They drive like go-karts!
One of the very first cars I ever drove was a Mini. There was one stolen, interior stripped, and then abandoned in the underground flats of my local Housing Commission flats up the road from where I grew up. Us local kids discovered it, put 2 milk crates in it to use as seats which was really handy because we could sit right up close so we could reach the pedals (after all we were only 11-12yo) and hold on tight to the steering wheel se we wouldn't fly out the open (broken glass) windows while cornering. We went to it every day after school, after all it was "our" car.
We even made up plans on what were gonna do with it when we get older, and who would have it on what days etc (there was 5 of us lol).
Man did we bash that car up or what, rammed it up against the walls and roof support columns of the car-park countless times, there wasn't one straight panel on it, and all the glass was broken, front back and sides. But we didn't care as long as it drove, and that thing just kept going.
Eventually word got around (we bragged) and before too long a group of older hoodlums (16-17yo) came and told us it was "their" car and they just took it. All we could do was helplessly watch in horror as those mugs drove away with the love of our lives all the while mumbling something about it being a "Mini Cooper S", "Bathurst tank", "motor sounds big".
To 10-11yo's it didn't mean anything, Bathurst Smathust, we didn't even know what Bathust was, but when I think back now and how much those things are worth now I can almost cry. :\

Sorry been a busy couple of days,
The "fully restored awesome mini" that i bought has a cracked head, a real shame as its a bin job now and it was a bog stock mk1 cooper S head.

I currently own a 1966 mini deluxe that has a 1342cc mk1 "s" block and 1-3/4 SU
i sold my 1966 moke last week, 998cc block bored out to 1132cc with a 44mm IDF weber.
and sold my 1978 leyland moke on Monday night. (bog stock 998cc)
In the past 5 years i have had these minis:

1993 Rover mini (uk made) in auto with a 1275cc single port injected motor
1997 Rover mini (uk made) man with a 1275cc single port injected motor
1966 mini Deluxe, 1275cc bored out to 1360 with a 45mm weber
1964 mini 850 with a 1275 bored out to 1310 with a HIF44
& a 1981 uk made "austin clubman estate" with a 1275cc motor and a BMW k1100 motorbike head with fuel injection.

My first car was a mini and i have always owned one.

I hang around Eastern Creek and occasionally go to Wake field but its a s*** track to photograph.
This year i have been to Philip Island & Morgan Park raceway with the usual NSW mini contingent.
Next year i am hoping to get to Sandown raceway and Queensland raceway.

The last Group N race for the year is at Wakefield later this month i believe.

*drools* Funny that I can import a Rover Mini from Japan, cheaper than an R32 (until the dollar drops more), but I would really need a garage for that...

stay away from them, headaches unless you know what you are doing.
MCM bought one which will probably make minis a bit more expensive,

If you rip out the fuel injection and put a weber or su it will drive better.
The crappy fuel injection is what lets it down but the aircon is great.

Yeah, I saw that. MCM has just enough viewers to raise the price. :/
