Hey everyone,
out taking some shots in the Brisbane CBD tonight, came across this interesting building which seems abandoned.
Based on the size and visibility of it I thought there would be some reports on the forum but couldn't find any.
Just wondering if anyone's checked it out or posted :)
Thanks

I have definitely seen it before, with people outside in that courtyard however. That was about a year ago though so.

This building is called Yungaba. Its the former Immigration Department Centre for Brisbane, therefore it has been listed on the National Heritage Registry - its a very important building for Australia. Migrants would come via boat down the Brisbane River and station here whilst they handed over their passports and notes and all that jibberjabber.

It was a government owned building for office use space for a long time until 2009ish when it was vacated. The current developers who own it plan to turn this building into three separate 1million dollar luxury apartments but greedy rich people don't want to invest in units built on flood plains.

The building is alarmed and loudly so. There is also a very bright sensor light on the balcony at night.
Its quite stripped and boring inside. I thought I had photos of the interior but I can't find them on my computer. You're not missing out on much anyways.

Thanks for the insight bro :) Doesn't seem worth it then, I'll keep looking around.

No worries. Always consider the risk vs. reward. There is a location I would do anything to explore and document in all its vacant glory at the moment, but its technically a site office - so as it was pressed against me yesterday by another explorer is the risk really worth the reward? Most likely not.

Pointer; posting exteriors of building online without having been in yourself often sets the challenge for someone else to get inside where you didn't. Also posting locations of fragile and historically important structures (such as this) as they're still standing will also giving the building unwanted attention.

The more people know about a location results in more foot traffic which is the single most effective complexity to an abandoned site, NOT posting pictures of a place. The more people head to a location the more people are putting themselves at risk of being seen meaning security or whoever start to notice a pattern and get harder on security standards.

Which leads me to say... always be careful who you show what location.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Photo's been taken down, probably wasn't a great idea to post it in the first place.
Thanks for the advice :)

It doesn't really matter, its just my advice based on past experiences, experiences you don't want :)
