I went there last about a month ago and there was a shitload of activity going on, obviously wanting to deal with the place quickly. I doubt anything worth exploring remains, but only one way to find out. You can just go over or around the temp fence, assuming it's still there

You missed this boat 4 years ago when it was locked down, the mill closed in 2009. Since then it's been explored and graffed like crazy.
There's a caretaker on-site 24/7 now, they run some sort of gallery there, but it's gonna be redeveloped very soon as units. They will keep the silos, the will be converted for modern use.
You can ask the caretaker for a tour, he's reasonable, but if he senses that you're an idiot he'll tell ya to p1ss off.
Note: those railway tracks in the pic are now the 'new' tram line that runs right next to Mungo Scott.

The drain that runs adjacent to the flour mill is called Gorgie Mills, it was first explored by Hatchet (Cave Clan) about 15 years ago.

Think I'll break my silence over this.

Even after the place got known by graffers it was still easily the best abandonment to explore in NSW after White bay for the period it existed. I still hate saying that because I'm sure there's got to be better ones :) The fact that all the "abando photographers" such as "visual cocaine" and photographyhotspots didn't know made the mills more special.

Although I had explored the place before the art studio opened, I still went ahead and made contact with the lead artist/sculptor there.

But as he wasn't always there it was hard finding time for a visit. Usually he would message or email me last minute in case I was around.

One time he called I came and found out he was holding some open day BBQ at the studio with all the arty types! As my art skills only stretched to year 10 high school it was a bit unusual being there by myself wondering WTH was going on. On the flipside it was a good way to get some valuable intel :)

After this meeting I started posting up planned trips to the mill but did not mention the name in the post as it was my custom to only reveal via PM. There were a few of those between end 2013 up to the weeks after the studio closed. It was hard to do as the artist's schedule was unpredictable. During that time some stuff was already being taken out.

Then I think a month after the studio closed, the place got locked down real tight as what was mentioned in the earlier threads. And I've also had close calls with security there too.

I lost count of how many times I've been since then but untouched or not it was still a great place to visit. To the point where I ignored all other spots.

Will work on posting some shots soon.

Moral of the story - pay attention to the meetup threads viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1673 besides asking for stuff. Cos' you never know what you find :)

Hmmm. I'm sure you've been in the same boat revisiting spots like it's groundhog day?

My band played a gig at this site a couple of years ago for an arts event.
The guys who run the art gallery/warehouse are really nice - nice enough to hold exhibitions and events every once in a while, just keep an eye out for them (usually advertised online - gallery is called Mungo Art Studios)
With all the development going on there for the new apartments, added to the well established arts warehouse I would definitely not classify this place as abandoned - it never really was!

Wow nice. Where was the gig held? Was it inside one of the buildings?

Nice story. Yes the artists were quite friendly.

But just want to correct you on a few things. The studios started at least a few months or longer after the original occupants finished clean-up. So there was a period where the place was abandoned.

Then there was another short period where it was unoccupied/abandoned before development started. The studio was forced to move/close during that time much to the frustration of the artists working there.

If there's no pics, it didn't happen ;)

Either way it's probably now just boring empty halls which anyone will see once it is reopened (minus the tags).

Anyway I am sure your inbox is getting flooded now.

LOL You are assuming too much.

I'm referring to the last sentence in which case it could happen when you are asking for someone to "PM me for tips" :)
