Purchasing true warm tint (or warmer end of daylight tint) LED torches is a bit tricky in Australia. Whilst manufacturers such as Eagletac and Armytek sell warm/daylight tint torches (approx. 4000K) these models are generally not sold online or in-store from Australian retailers who only seem to stock the cool white tint models (approx. 6000K). Thus you may need to import from abroad. If that is the case, throw Zebralight into the list of options as well as they also have 4000K options.

If your RAW post processing software has brushes or radial filters, you can also selectively adjust colour temperature and tint in post processing for different parts of the image.

Took my lenser p7.2 back this week.. a few weeks ago the zooming stopped working while somewhere dark (didnt get to try the zooming during the day, bugger), when I was able to have a look I noticed the o-ring had started to work its way out.. no zooming, no longer waterproof. Took me a few weeks to find the receipt, return to vendor and will prob be repaired not replaced. The guy at the shop forced the zoom and the o-ring roke completely! The paperwork said they broke it altogether not me

In case you're after a new torch, or if anyone else is after one; I played with a friend's Wolf Eyes torch. It's really well-built and bright. According to him, LED Lenser is a waste of money since you pay quite a bit more for the name and the hype. After checking out the Wolf Eyes line, I'm inclined to believe him haha.

That said, for exploring it probably doesn't really matter unless you really care about the ability to mount your torch to a rifle. That and if you need 1,200 lumen police torch. LOL.

How many people here carry red torches? I've been told they don't affect your nightvision much when shone in one's eyes, so I have a head torch that can switch between red and white. It's clearly on it's last legs so I might toss it. Would it be worth buying a new one or just settle for a vanilla torch?

I have a headtorch that happens to have a red light. (Cheap-ish energizer?). It's definitely handy when you're creeping around in darkness and need light for a few seconds, as you don't have the momentary blindness that follows white light.

But it kinda defeats the purpose when your with other people and everyone else has a normal torch lol..

So it happens i lost most of my smallish torches while moving houses...grrrr

4500lumen Trust fire was harder to misplace, so its still here , but hardly practical if you only need 200lumens etc.

Was going to go and splash out on a new Lenser P7, however stumbled upon Coast HP7 which is half the price of a Lenser

what a nice torch, which performs the same (If not better) than Lenser P7. Don't believe me ? Go to your local Bunnings and see for yourself

, costs only $65.

Though red light can be useful at times, a white light with decent CRI will illuminate your path better. Dangers such as dodgy floorboards, or unexpected pits in drains may not be so apparent in a dim red light.

You can buy genuine LED Lenser P7.2 online for around $80+PP. The Coast HP7 is $15 cheaper, but the zoomed/spot beam is not as good in my opinion - the Coast has a bullseye look as opposed to the LED Lenser's more solid beam. The LED Lenser P7.2 has considerably improved optics than the original P7.

However, if you don't need a zoom beam, you can get a lot more lumens for the money from manufacturers other than LED Lenser's or Coasts.

So time to get a handheld torch, been using my headlamp for a while and it's pretty nice but I want something handheld. Been looking around, dont want anything too large. Would prefer it runs on AA's. Wide beam over long beam is fine.
The JETBeam SRA40 seems nice.

You don't really need more than 200-300 lumens for URBEX. I'd save your cash and get something cheaper and less bright.

For those not familiar with the website, what exactly do you have to do? Sign up for an account and post and then you'll get a link to purchase it when the group buy closes?

You register on BLF. Put your name down in the thread (choosing the tint). Then when the group buy closes (which is in a few days) you get a private message with a discount code. You then have around 7-10 days to purchase it from the seller (in this case Banggood). After that period, the code usually goes public so that anyone can buy the remaining stock (if there is any).

Cool thanks! Looks like a good deal but not sure I can justify another torch at the moment.

Cool thanks! Looks like a good deal but not sure I can justify another torch at the moment.

I can't justify it, but that doesn't stop me getting it.

always depends on location, we have some $2 cheapies with black perm maker over the lens to make them dull less then a phone screen! we also have a big big mofo with a 160w h4 globe that runs off a bike battery haha has like a 12" reflector.
i use fenex for headlamps caving and in mines love their headlamps and p7 for general

Got one of these a few weeks ago, and it's such an improvement on the no name torches I've been using! Cheers for the recommendation.

After a torch recommendation for a hand held torch. Perferbley something pretty bright for drains and can charge through usb, so it can be charged by battery bricks. Currently using a bike torch that's 350 lumens and charges via usb but would rather have a separate torch for exploring. Just struggling to find anything.

Loads of options for quality USB rechargable torches, but you won't find them in Bunnings:
- Convoy BD range - cheapest, though you'll need to buy the li-ion batteries separately. You can choose the tint/colour temperature.
- Nitecore MH20/MH20GT
- Olight R20/R40/S15R/S20R/S30R
- Klarus RS series
- LED Lenser P7R
Note - these all use li-ion batteries, and you should read up on the safety aspects of li-ion if you go down that path.

By the way, you generally only need around 200 lumens for most drains, which many multiple AA and AAA lights can cope with.
