So who has what?

I have a cheap Crane one atm with spaced back for airflow meaning you can wear it whole day long in 40degree heat and wont get that back sweat spot through your back..

However thinking of about stepping it up for my camera's sake to: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320925335156 ... 1423.l2649

I've just got a cheap Puma sports backpack. It's quite a good bag, I bought it from Rebel Sport for $30 last year.

Depends on what you're planing on using it for. Personally I have never been in a situation where I've needed a fully waterproof pack during urbex. I have used them canyoning and stuff and I hate the fact that most of them have zero support or padding, especially if you're carrying heavy gear around all day.

I use an Eberlestock Halftrack these days, and it has a built in rain cover, plus I'll keep a roll top dry bag inside, never had a water problem yet.

Just took a look at it and wow, that is like the tank of the backpack world. It apparently even holds a Manfrotto, although they may be referring to one of the smaller models. It's a bit big though, and on my small frame, probably a lot too big for small entrances and so on.

Yeah, its not small, but for spending 10+ hours under its probably the most comfortable pack I've ever owned, just edging out my Kifaru in that regard.

If you want something smaller, have a look at maybe a Maxpedition Sitka http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/Sit ... 12p926.htm

I find it a great size for exploring and the strap system means you can rotate it to the front of your body without taking it off. The fabric is also pretty water resistant. I've fallen into a pool in a cave wearing it and it got completely submersed for for 3-4 mins while I tried to get out, and the inside was still dry.

Or theres always the well regarded RUSH 24 http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products ... kpack.html

The Camelbak HAWG http://www.camelbak.com/Military-Tactic ... -Hawg.aspx is also a great pack although only 500d cordura its designed really well and things like an insulated reservoir pocket are awesome. Mine only shows minor (couple of small holes and stressed fabric) wear after being out with me for every day for 6 months.

I try to go for gear that is at least 1000d cordura, as it really takes abrasion much better than the 500d or 800d, and when you're exploring most bag wear in my experience happens through scrapes and dragging etc.

Thanks for the information! From looking at the sites, I like the RUSH one better. Probably look around a bit more. My current backpack is going through a lot of scratches at the moment, need a new one pretty soon. Haha.

Ive had a maxpedition kodiak for ages now and they just make them to outlast you- plus they compact your gear down pretty well.
Handiest feature though is they actual gearsling- just means you can grab out spare batteries or a snack without having to do a pitstop
