Lenser P3 any good

Hey guys,

Want to slowly get into the Lenser crew... as a starting model is P3 any good ?

I have a collection of other torches so it wont be the main survivor type.. just something to get around in the dark without attracting unwanted attention and not tripping down braking my neck at the same time due to poor light.

Thanks in advance guys :)

I've got one, though I've got a lot of torches...

It's a decent torch, especially for it's size, I use mine for long exposures in sensitive places where I don't want to rouse suspicion.

Not bad for $20, the great thing about LED Lensers are how bright they are and compact. This is pretty compact, but it's not super bright. Focus is nice, but the blue ring turns out really strangely on photos.

I'd still suggest just buying Crees on eBay.

Led Lensers are overpriced for what they are.

Based on? They're similarly priced to Fenix. The Led Lensers that are more expensive use a micro-controller for power-regulation and different modes, etc.

Hope you enjoy it, I'm very happy with my quad colour LED Lenser P7QC. The power regulation keeps a fairly constant brightness during the life of the battery, but just be aware that is no obvious "dimming" when the battery is nearly flat. It'll just turn itself off. Thus unless you are sure of the runtime, make sure you have spare batteries (and can change them in the dark), and/or have a secondary source of light.

So far the torch has survived quite a few drops and submersions.

Not a 100% relevant but might be kinda useful to some...I tend to carry two sets of batteries(one new one old) so I can manually dim my torch even tho it already has a 50%output setting, for times when I just need to see where I am going but I don't want others to see me

Sounds like a lot more trouble than just getting a torch with the relevant function. However, the biggest advantage to this is that you will be very, very good at switching batteries when they go flat.

I hope my phone is charged for when my torch goes flat. I have yet to swap the batteries, and I'll definitely need light to do that. :D

Nope, I usually just keep mine in my backpack. As long as the entirety of my bag doesn't get drenched, it should survive no problems :)

I love the lensers. I highly recommend the p7. I use it every explore without fail. Ive had it for to years now and nothing kills it. Its been underwater dropped from some crazy heights onto concrete to the point ive just thought it was in pieces. Get down pick it up wirks perfect. I also run an x21r.2 that is easily my favorite its just a pain to carry because its so big. Anyway ive seen the cree things in the flesh and they are ok but would never go the distance of a lenser. Its back to the old saying "you get what you pay for".

Still can't justify spending that much on a torch :?

I sold a few (non-urbex) photos so had a little bit of cash spend.
LED lensers seem to be deemed low-tech and poor value for money by discerning flashaholics. However, they are very well built (my P7QC has had many a nasty drop and survived), have good warrenty/product support, and an excellent patented zoom mechanism. If a high quality zoom beam (found in most LED Lenser torches) or RGB (in the P7QC) is not in your list of requirements then you get much more lumens for less money with other manufacturers.

Have had a little play with my new LED Lenser P7.2. First impressions:
- About three times brighter than my deceased $25 Xstreem HP Focus zoom torch from Coles.
- Zoom mechanism is smooth and can be used with one hand, unlike previous zoom torch.
- Beam can go much wider than previous zoom torch - very useful for photography.
- Fully zoomed beam is purposefully out of focus, and thus doesn't project an image of the LED chip.
Certainly worth the $70 price compared to cheaper Chinese zoom torches. On the downside, I'm sure it will eat AAA batteries for breakfast like the P7QC !
