If you concentrate when coming from central towards redfern
on the topside you'll see 3 tunnels one to the far left one to the far right and one that drops under underground that has vast bush and long grass growing at the entrance looks like a good explore down there !

I'm not sure why but the Redfern tunnels seem to be built a different way to the other sydney rail tunnels.

They have never been used for trains.

And there are tunnels similar to the live ones at Redfern, catch a train from Redfern to Bondi Junction and you'll see plenty. The City Circle tunnels were built in the 1910s/1920s. The Eastern Suburbs Railway tunnels were dug between 1947 and 1979.
And the tunnels that are arched (round top) were bored through, the flat top ones were built using the cut and cover method (under roads).

I've seen those tunnels at redfern station you can see through a wire fence from a disused platform used as an exit/entry gonna get down there soon but will do some more scouting on safer/smarter ways to get in also if you go down to the Illawarra line on the platform right near the escalators there's a thin sheet metal wall with a rectangle cut out that looks like it's been kicked out or removed you can also see the disused platforms there

Platform 10 at Redfern isn't disused, the Nowra train uses it and seeing as that is a long distance service they check the tickets on board.

And even though it's still mentioned in many online articles, that 'rectangle' hole in the wall that was visible from platform 11 was covered over years ago. In any case it was never a viable way to the tunnels because you can only access the underground platforms while trains are running, and there's tons of cameras.

I've been informed by a good source that the 'rectangular' hole opposite platform 11 is open again, although it's 8ft from the ground.

I take a lot of people to a lot of places, what's your point? And what has that got to do with this thread?

What I'm really interested in is whether St. James is still accessible after some kids ran out of them at peak hour recently.

St James is becoming a playground for kids, what with all the Instagram sharing.

I mean if its easier during peak or in hours like redfern is, go ahead. Just don't tell your insta buddies how to do it.

I'll let you know, one of the limitations is that one of the only ways in is at 2 in the morning when trains aren't running and this 15 year old right here does not want to walk to the city, especially at 2am. Until then I will try find another way in that may be a bit easier.

The Domain tunnel is part of the Eastern Suburbs Railway, it doesn't link up with St James which is part of the City Circle.
Either way, getting into SJ these days is hit and miss, you might get caught or you might not. They monitor the cameras now.

No idea Blakjak Just what kids have told me
i also heard there was a staircase that descended from near the botanical gardens near Shakespeare place
apparently it went into some sort of service tunnels that led to the other side of st James lake?
Bull crap Obviously but it just goes to show kids imaginations these days

Sadly that staircase burnt down in the late 60s, it's nothing but a capped 30m shaft now. It used to be the original entry to the bunker during WW2. Parts of the burnt out staircase (scorched wood) can be seen at the foot of the shaft. The bunker used to be in the City Inner tunnel, the live tunnel that trains now use to get from St James to Circular Quay. There is no trace of the bunker at all.
That tunnel was not used (had no rails) until 1956 when the City Circle was completed with the construction of CQ station. Till then trains turned back at St James.
