Hi all

I recently developed an interest in WWII era fortifications and structures. After finding the Oz@War website, curiosity lead me here.

When I was a kid, some friends and I would go play in drains. There was a manhole with no cover and a ladder leading into a tunnel that we could easily stand up in. One direction was dark. The other direction lead to another ladder and sealed manhole. Continuing further lead us to an open room where 3 other tunnels joined together. A steel grate let plenty of light in. We never went any further than this junction, for fear of being lost. Interesting that decades later, URBEX has developed in to a wide spread hobby, despite society's general disapproval.

Also interesting is that if poop really hits the fan, we know where the good hiding spots are.

It's in Brisbane. Pretty sure it's been sealed properly now. It's really close to a primary school.

The drains were when I was in grade 5 or 6, so that'd be around 1989.

I studied some basic programming after highschool, just pascal and c++. Did the "Hello World" tip you off? Right now I'm a sparky.

I actually lived at Bribie for like 7 years, I'd be super keen for a Bribie event and I know my way around really well

I actually lived at Bribie for like 7 years, I'd be super keen for a Bribie event and I know my way around really well

love the forts, we used to go camping up the beach a few times a year and havent been for a year or so, will be getting a permit after easter i reckon
arent you down south now though?

Yeah I'm down at Canberra now, but I'm always happy to fly up to catch up with mates and explore, 2 birds with 1 stone yknow. If you organise a meet up lmk

How long does it actually take to get enough frequent flyer points to get some decent rewards? Id est, not like a $5 Myer gift card.

Wife and I are keen to get the fourby on the beach again, just need to organise the babysitters etc. Need to start a new post for Camp Bribie and sort out some dates I reckon.

Well I use my father's points, but from what I understand, he gets at least ~1500 for every domestic flight (since he's lifetime platinum, it's like doubled from the initial gain). They are all return flights, so that's ~3k. And he usually does 3 or so domestic trips a fortnight, so 9k a fortnight. I believe Brisbane to Sydney is about 8k, so I guess it's all relative to your status and how much you fly. He also gets FF points from the hotels he stays in and things like that, so let's call it 10K a fortnight. Don't fact-check my values because they're probably wrong, but I think that's a pretty stable estimation.
