Have any of you guys had any experience with abseiling down the Otford number 7 Tunnel air vent. It has been done but I can't contact the people who did it.
Its only about a 60m drop and would be a very cool thing to do. From what Ive read its about 2m wide at its narrowest.

I'd appreciate any input on this.

either way, keen to hear how you go

From what Ive read and seen posted there is access, but that can change weekly I suppose depending on the whims of the local council. I just like abseiling into places like that. It's a real thrill. I think a scouting trip is in order within a few weeks.

Access is fairly easy from either ends. Abseiling is also possible (it's pretty wide all the way through the vent) but probably best if you already have experience in abseiling/canyoning!

This is a pic of the top end of the vent shaft. Its been smashed in before which is why its been plated.

that does look like fun, how are your abseiling plans going? tie off on a tree?

Most probably on the bullbar of my landcruiser.

I'll probaly tie it off on my bullbar and run it over a branch on one of those trees so I can get off on a standing start on the edge of the chimney. Its easier and safer than just having the rope run over the edge.
Ive just to make sure the rope reaches close to the tunnel floor. Ive read its 60 metres but will have to verify that.
