A good respirator might come in handy, looks pretty damaged since the last time I was there.

You have to climb in, no holes in the fence this time.

Sad news - Rachel Forster has been demolished. Only ever visited it once, was definitely one of my favorite explores, really unfortunate I didn't go and re-visit it earlier.

"It’s not adaptive re-use at all, it’s demolition..." I have had word from multiple sources that it has now been demolished.

Rachel Forster has not been destroyed.. I was there today and only the middle bit was gone. Still a good explore if you're keen enough :)

I had been told my a friend that half of one of the main buildings had been demolished - leaving half of a building, one of the most asbestos contaminated places i have ever seen just hanging there. Has that other half been demolished?

I'd say there would be asbestos there, yes, and half a building is gone. However I walked straight across the demolished half and it was all just cement and bricks and rubble, nothing even remotely looking like asbestos.
Wouldn't they need to remove the asbestos before they began demolition?

Rbsx, just remember that asbestos can come in multiple forms.
Yes, asbestos fibre sheeting (fibro) is one of the most common forms, but there quite a few other ways asbestos can come to be in a buildings.

Old linoleum (lino) floors contain asbestos and was the predecessor to vinyl flooring.

Corrugated fibre sheeting is fairly common and at first glance looks like dirty corrugated iron or fibreglass sheeting.

Places like hospitals, larger buildings and industrial sites used to use an insulating slag to cover steam and hot water pipes that contained asbestos.

Things relating to fire often used asbestos, such as flame doors, boilers and other stuff
Asbestos has also been used as insulation in homes and buildings. Google Mr fluffy and you'll find out more.

Essentially if a building is pre 1980s treat it like it has asbestos in it because it most likely will.

That said, asbestos is fairly safe in most of the above forms unless its disturbed.

asbestos was and probably still is the best insulator known to man - had so many uses, and if not deadly would still be used today. government buildings hospitals etc would use it where they could. take care. nasty stuff :(

So has anyone been to the hospital recently and can confirm it is demolished or is it still half standing?

I was there a week and a half ago, the main part of the building in the centre of the lot was mostly gone but the wings either side were still there. There was a lot of construction going on but it was more quiet on the side where the buildings are still standing. Could probs still take some decent pictures

This is a pic of one of the wards at RF in 2003 before any demolition had began...

The guy in the blue overalls with tool in hand was a copper-stripper who we caught in the act, he stood back while we explored, then went straight back to his thieving.

It's my local. When I was a kid, I got stitches on my head at that hospital. Sad they let it rot like that.

Still explorable, be quick though, demolition is well underway! Keep a keen eye out, cops frequently do drive-bys and will enter the site if they see or hear of anything suspicious (torches, noises, call-in, etc.). Lights on in the bottom level and apparently there's an alarm (I didn't run into it, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if I missed it).
