Respirators: Where to buy?

Hey guys,
I've rounded up a few mates who are keen on UE and we're planning to head out on our first trip soon. I'm pretty sure there isn't any Asbestos in the area we're planning to explore (no revealing of locations, right?), but I've decided to plan ahead and get my hands on a respirator now. I've found a couple on amazon, both full and half-face: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Series-Facepie ... B000FTEDMM and http://www.amazon.com/3M-Respirators-As ... B007TU2QOM and I've read that these are better than the cheapos at hardware stores. The full-face looks cool, but would probably fog up pretty quickly. Where would you guys suggest I go if my price range is about $20-$50, bearing in mind that I'm not exactly planning on visiting any locations where chemical waste might be an issue (asbestos would be the biggest problem)?
Cheers guys!

Sorry, should've been more to the point: Where did everyone else buy from? How do this models on amazon stack up against others of a similar price?

Unless you're going to be disturbing broken up asbestos, a respirator may not be necessary. Wikipedia has some good info on filter ratings etc.

Yeah that's what I figured. Doesn't hurt to be sure though. Thanks!

You can always try fleabay.

However I'm starting to turn away from masks. I've lived in a house with a slightly derelict asbestos garage my whole life and I still feel healthy :)
Just a harmless explorer. No need to waste taxes checking me ;)

That may be true, but godamn that full-face looks cool. What better way to scare the s*** out of any cops/other explorers that might be lurking about?

still, being a disease that comes about later on in life and as a result of a buildup of fibre etc (that is my latest understanding only), i wouldn't become complacent around the stuff. Even the way you move around a place with potential contamination can be a mitigating factor

If you stir it up it's going to get on your clothes too, you take your mask off and then get naked and you're likely to cop some anyway.
I put a "No Trespassing" sign on the fence. Now no one will enter.

I agree, the numbers are always stacked against you no matter what. Have always been careful walking around there and always clean up afterwards whenever I am near there. But the factories or old research buildings are the real worry as some use the non-bonded spray on stuff on the pipes - plus that corrugated roofing is a bit dodgy.

Anyway the garage we have is doing no favours so we'll get rid of it soon.

Having said that, my dad who is quite old seems healthy will be off on holiday soon ...

You can get respirators from any of the workwear/safety stores. I have a cheap P1 (only rated for particulate eg. asbestos) and it set me back about $30.

I used to wear one on every explore, but these days I generally don't unless there is a direct hazard. Asbestos needs to become airborne to get into your lungs, and generally while exploring I'm creeping around pretty lightly. I'm also yet to encounter any fumes or gasses that a respirator would help with while exploring.

I used to have one of the old german storm trooper gas masks. being a full head mask, it kept dust and more off my head and more importantly, out of the eyes. The filters were rated for whatever they used on each other in WWI & WWII, so I figured that they'd be more than adequate for asbestos and other harmful dusts. Bought mine for $50 in 2006 at the disposals store on Adelaide Street in Brisbane City and the rubber has only just given up the ghost.

Bunnings and Masters also do respirators pretty cheap. And Masters will also beat any price bunnings offers by a further 10%....
