Hi! My name is Cap!
I'm from the West side of Melbourne at the end of a trainline.

I got into Urbex because of that infamous KMZ file which is probably outdated as hell but it's great for reference!

I'm looking into heading to abandos and dry drains over the winter season with long day trips in the dry seasons. My next trip will be Newport Mills and the D*t if anyone has any tips for either.

I was also wondering what I should carry asides from basic kit. Like a waterproof map with locations/first aid kits and all that.

I hope to explore with you and maybe one day we can climb the Omega mast!

Welcome!
Asking for advice on what to carry will get you as many different answers as we have members!
Myself: I usually have a phone, headlamp, spare batteries, manhole opener and for longer explores - a drink.
First aid kit would be a smart move.
Chuck one in if you're hauling a bag anyway.

I was thinking of getting a manhole opener. Do you guys have a preferred style or is there an international standard?
Also what about mapping? Are there any tips/apps that can be of use? Or should I do my best to remember?

Thank you again for the welcome! I hope I can get in on a group exploration/climb one day!

I have been to the Newport Mills a couple of times and it looked to have people there doing some sort of art exhibition each time. If you havent, check out Bradmill before it gets demolished as planning permits have been approved a couple of mnts ago.
The D*** is a b*tch to get into but very impressive.

This is the same as mine, though there are many variants. Also doubles as a hammer, or pry-bar:

Google Earth is great for creating/storing/viewing maps - Just like the kmz file.
Trying to get enough phone service set a placemark from underground is the difficult part :)

and you have to be careful if the manhole has bigger lifting holes, nearly dropped a square lid using the smaller kind... generally easy to use though, give one to your mate for n easy 2 man lift... remember to bend at the knees

No such thing as an international standard. Most Melbourne manholes are pretty much the same, whereas Sydney has 3 or 4 variants.
