With much talk about asbestos and other contaminants on a site, I'm just wondering what masks people use.

I've started using the foldable ones, but still considering the half face ones with the refills although they are expensive.

Do you use the disposable type, folding type, or the half/full face masks?

Does anyone re-use their disposable/folding ones up to a certain point?

Apologies for the noob questions :)

pretty sure a P2 will cover most things urbex can throw at you, unless you want to explore a chemical silo or something like that. only thing with the cheapo foldables is they don't give a great fit

Agreed. Fairly cheap for a 3 pack at Bunnos. P2 does vapours as well as particles but it's the latter you're trying to keep out with asbestos.

I bought a couple of the 3m P2 folding ones off ebay. They seem to fit ok and protect the internals when folded. So hopefully it should work out. They are not cheap too!

The half or full mask cartridge ones that you get at most big box hardware stores are still only made to the same AS as the P2V disposable ones, so the few extra dollars isn't really worth it for casual use.

I bought a civilian Israeli gas mask off the net a few years back, It's kinda extreme but it looks cool.
I'd rather wear the half face masks to be honest, it gets abit hot and FOV is pretty s***.

Protector safety half face, Draeger full face.

You can source cheap p2 filters for half face masks, they are reusable as long as you don't contaminate them with biological matter (Mold spores etc). If you get one of the masks, get one that uses 2 filters as it will improve your ease of respiration and if you wish to make them go even further, get prefilters.

p2 disposible with valves work well if you want that slightly better airflow and something you can throw away.
I have been using an MSA Advantage 420 for 3 years and gone through half a dozen filters. The material has not broken down yet after a somewhat hard life.
