Possible new drain

Hi everyone

this site is on the bank of a river.
There's a heavy metal sheet covering this entry point although i could see through the sides just enough to see a ladder leading straight down, at least 5 metres as that is all i could view ( under the sheet is a shaft with a ladder). Basically, i think it leads to a drain but i'm not sure. Its located about 10m away from a river and there's also some sort of tank nearby. The water outlet point which exits into the river has bars & the majority of the exit point cant be seen due to the water level of the river.

The metal sheet is slightly dislodged already, here's a couple of photos.. I'm very curious..

Looks like a gantry for attaching a hoist to lift something in or out. That something is bound to be a pump, I'd say.
Agreed.
To me, looks like infrastructre for a rising sewer main.

Maybe to avoid confusion (and to not drift from the original OP) you may start a new thread for your site if you like :)
