Abandoned buildings along Redfern Station

I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet. Has anyone been to the derelict buildings along Redfern train station? The Eveleigh maintenance sheds and such?

There;s lots of interesting buildings and it's easy to get into, I walked right in, no need to jump a fence or anything. No security either.

Nice pix, that place was so much better to explore around 10 years ago. Now it's all been trashed, and some parts have been redeveloped. There used to be abandoned carriages and locomotives parked on those lines outside the Suburban Car Workshop, many a graffer painted them till they were moved.

Over the past month whenever I've gone past redfern railcorp has been in there as well as a bulldozer type machine.. So they've probably started to redevelop.

The series of buildings closest to Redfern station were the former Test Laboratorys, which were later named Scientific Services. Buildings included Engineering Investigation, mechanical workshops, metallurgy, chemistry and the large shed was for asbestos removal for a lot of the old rollingstock.

In early 2010 the buildings were almost graffiti-free, and in relatively good condition with some old bits and pieces still inside. Last time I looked (around May-June 2013) there was work happening there, alarm panels had been fitted as well as automatic lights.

Here are some photos from early 2010.

You can get in the big shed through the demountable offices attached to the sides. There are airlock-type doors because it was an asbestos-contaminated workplace. From memory I think there were also decontamination showers inside the demountables.

I did a photo tour around that area a few years ago. Wish I took the chance to check it out then.

One off my list as it looks trashed now.

Thanks for sharing

It's disappointing to see so much graffiti emerging in the last few years to a place like this. Especially when you realise that it's located in such a viewable area that had gone untouched for so many years.

Yeah it's sad, and graffers try to defend this sh1t.

Look how just that asbestos shed has deteriorated in just 3 years...

Those two photos are of diagonally opposite corners of the building, but yeah, still a lot of graff.

Last time I was there, they had multiple buildings marked with asbestos warnings.
Not sure if they're still current, yet exercise caution.

I'm already gone I think, done so many old abandoned buildings with dust particles floating about.
Then again I think my lifestyle might get me first. :)
