Let's do this! The weekend 1/12/12 - 2/12/12?
I suggest the Saturday, up to Newcastle, check out the bunkers around there. There are also some old abandoned rail tunnels that are now on bike tracks. Unexciting fare for most people, but it should be a legal expo. We could also check out Tin City on Stockton Beach if we can get a permit to drive on the beach.
If some one can offer me a bed for the night in Sydney I'd be willing to offer transport up to and around Newcastle.
We could do an overnighter, camping or staying in a youth hostel and explore the Maitland area the following day while people take the train home if they don't want to do the overnighter.

Sounds good, but that's quite alot to cover. I would have liked to add the Cathereine Bay wharf jetty too and see if it's accessible before it gets demolished. What are the plans for accomodation in Newcastle? I will confirm later if I'm around during those dates.

I have to do a presentation on the evening of the 20th but am still up for an expo at least 1 of the days on the week end, probably both.
How many people are interested?
How many want just a 1 day event?
How many want 2?
Accommodation? Well I like to sleep in my van.

20th? don't you mean the 2nd?

Anyway, I have a corolla and can't imagine sleeping inside. Will need to find a camping/caravan site and pitch a small tent instead.

Ooops, I meant Friday the 30th. If I can get to Sydney later on in the evening, or early in the morning on Saturday that would be good.

People can we get an indication of who is interested in going because an expo of 2 people would not be worth it.

I'm in for a one day expo. If it's two days, I'll come for one day, unless it's too bloody far from Sydney. :D

Sorry for late reply, had problems with site again last night.

I can probably do late Saturday and Sunday as I may have plans around Saturday noon. I'll know in a few days. Otherwise, I'll just do Sunday and meet you guys depending on where you are that day, but I also don't want it to be too far from Sydney (Lower Newcastle/Lake Macquarie is my limit). BTW I've already been to the tin city and the shipwreck as well.

Besides the tin city, what other urbex places are in Newcastle (you can PM them to me)? I'm more into old industrial sites and abandonments than tunnels or drains. Especially the jetty on the southern part of Lake Macquarie which could get demolished soon.

I'm able to provide transport for up to 6 people from Sydney if people need wheels.

Panic, did you have an update on your itinerary or a schedule? I just need to know if I need to make any calls on where to stay, that's all. You can let me know of locations when we meet which is probably what I meant in my last post so I have an idea on what we are doing.

This is what is behind the fence to the coal processing facility I talked about. Uploading to tinypic instead as I have a huge backlog on flickr

Image

Provided there is a way of climbing the fence (it is very high steel spiked fence with razor wire which you can see in distant top left corner - sorry I forgot about the pics of the razor wire), the place could have lots of potential. I recommend bringing lots of towels, a first aid kit and a rug! Possibly some rope as well since it's a steep drop down those holes!

There's lots of graffiti as well.

I've heard about the Old sydney town and seen some pics but haven't done that as I'm not sure if there's much.

I tried posting this on the week end but the site crashed:

There's an old brick works, quarry, Catherine Hill wharf, an old power station lots of ww2 and pre ww2 bunkers

I can get into Sydney about 9:30 am from the south coast and then we can head north to Newcastle on the Saturday. I'm happy to pick up the whole mob if we have a small expo. That will save on fuel and getting organised. I have a book on camping spots in NSW, or we can stay at the YHA. It is a block and a half from Newcastle station http://www3.yha.com.au/hostels/nsw/hunt ... tle-beach/
Or we can just sleep in the vehicle at a quiet spot I know.

The weather forecast is looking a bit iffy.

But at this stage I am thinking of meeting up at Pennant Hills railways station at 9am Saturday. Is that good for everyone?

The youth hostel looks fine, haven't been to one of those since my backpacking days around Europe!

I was thinking of taking my own car with me in case I need to leave early on Sunday. I'll also be coming from the Pacific Highway end of the F3. So what's the next best stop to catch up with you after Pennant Hills?

I was thinking the small car park where Lindsley Street turns into Flowers Drive in Catherine Hill Bay.
33° 9'26.35"S
151°37'42.73"E

Keep in mind that these expos need to be legal sites.

Looks like YHA is getting full

Due to the bad weather, I'm going to hold off camping for now. Another suggestion for accomodation in case hostel fills up, Ibis budget motel - http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-349 ... ndex.shtml

I'm not booking yet until I meet up with you guys tomorrow. I'll be at the bay by 10am maybe earlier to beat the beachgoers. So see everyone tomorrow!
