Hey all. Photo n00b here

I'm looking to upgrade from using my phone while on walkabout.
I would like to ask a quick couple of questions regarding using a phone app as a remote for their camera.
I'd really appreciate any input.

1) is it fairly common to do? Anyone have any experience (good/bad)?

2. Does the 'link' to the camera become weak or disrupted while underground?

Hoping I could save a few sneaky bucks when I can pick up a big boy camera soon.

most current model cameras have some form of wifi/bluetooth and most of those have an app made by the company to control some of the cameras functions.
The signal is just emitted from the camera, rather than a cellular network. So it will be fine under ground, provided you're not too far from the camera.

I usually just use that default app for Nikon that lets you send photos to your phone straight from the camera. Never had a problem wirh it.

I used to use the Panasonic image app for long shutter speeds, but sometimes it didn't focus properly and therefore the photo was blurry. I now just set the camera on a 10 second countdown and it works fine. The app also lets me put photos straight from the camera onto my phone and has never had a problem.
