Hey guys,
I've been exploring for many years now and I love it, drains in particular.
Recently, I was given a week off from work so I created a map of all the drains that I have been in and that I know of
It's part of the google map's places so it's easy to share around, are you guys cool with me sharing the information?
Cheers

Hi and welcome :)

From what I've seen, sharing maps publicly usually isn't very wise.

Here in Sydney a lot of obscure places have been trashed thanks to a map certain individuals have managed to get their hands on from somewhere on the internet.

Fortunately there are heaps of even better places not present on the map that are still pristine.

In saying that I love mapping too. I was devastated when the new Google maps was released without any custom maping functions!

Yeah true fair enough.
Recently they have added much more mapping functionality which works for basic things like mapping out drains but its not great

I wouldn't recommend having maps out in the open, they've caused no end of trouble in the past. This particularly applies to locations getting trashed, as Aydun said. This isn't so much of an issue with drains, but as it makes them easier to find > more (often unprepared) people go in them > more people risk getting injured/killed > greater risk of a crackdown/increase in penalties for drain exploring.

When we have maps they're usually shared with trusted individuals or at least the creator knows who's getting their hands on them...

That said, if you PM me a link I'll comment on its accuracy for free... I like maps.

Where in Aus are you based?

Damn it! This is what I am doing wrong! I normally charge people a dollar for this service.
Okay, from now on I'll beat iso's rates by 10%! That's right, I'll beat nothing by 10%!

Seriously, I also love maps, and love to trade. But yeah, not with just anyone.

Hey guys,
I've been exploring for an unsubstantiated period of time and I love it, drains in particular.
Recently, I was given a week off from work so I COPIED a map of all the drains that I FOUND ON THE INTERNET and there's no evidence I have ever been in any of them.
A few days ago I tried passing this map off as my own. I rather stupidly didn't realise that the map was actually created by a guy called Panic! He wasn't real impressed when I sent him a link to his own maps which I've shared on Google and tried to pass it off as my own work. He was even less impressed that the map was one of the oldest and least up to date ones with no additions what so ever.
My credibility is now compleatly blown.
What should I do?
Cheers
There. I fixed it for you.

And yeah TheUrbexMap, I'm not even going to bother reporting this thread because you blew it. Passing my work off as your own really does not do much for your reputation. Everyone who has seen that map knows I created it. As some one once said, it's the worst kept secret in UE.
You could have said "Hey, here's a cool map I found on the web, anyone want to share it and contribute stuff? That would probably have got some responses. But now everyone's going to see this post, and wonder if you lied about that, what else are you lying about?
And yeah, normally I really don't like dissing a newbie like this, but to copy something, and to be dumb enough to try pass it off as your own work to the person who created it suggests that not only are you dishonest, but you're are not too bright either.

Woops, that's dumber than dumb. Probably lucky that came out fast. Would have been worse if they were sneaky enough to be believable and others shared more locations with them that were then put at risk of overexposure to can I use the words dickheads? Anyway other people who may not have much respect for places.

And giving credit where credit is due (as mentioned in the GE file) I compiled the GE file from personal experience, online lists and contributed information.
