Hi all, over the weekend someone broke into my car and stole a whole bunch of stuff. This included a significant amount of my camera gear (Canon 50d, Tokina 11-16mm, Sony E-Mount prime, Manfrotto tripod).
As such, I'm looking to replace/upgrade(?) my camera gear. To preface this, I've still got a Sony body and two Canon full frame mount lenses.
What would you guys recommend? Ditch the DSLR and switch to Sony mirrorless? Or should I re-buy a Canon DSLR body so that I can still use my Canon lenses?
If you are home I'd lend you my Canon 40d for the time being. Still I was actually looking at something less bulky and I haven't really been keeping up on the photography side lately.
Just a harmless explorer. No need to waste taxes checking me
Canon mirrorless is generally a bad idea. If you want to go mirrorless, for the price of the M3, you may as well go the A6000: specs comparison. It wins on basically everything, plus it focuses faster than the M3 (something Snapsort got wrong). For even faster autofocus, get the Canon 70D. I'll be happy to lend that to you for a week or so, if you want to try it out.
On the other hand, while you're getting a new camera, you may as well extend your budget and grab the original Sony A7... They're ridiculously cheap for a new full-frame camera, and all your lenses will work on it. Lens covering the APS-C sensor can be shot under "crop mode", something that Canon still has yet to adopt. Looking at the second-hand market, they can be found just under the $1k mark.
