Found this great resource on the web, if you follow the links and are in anyway talented with things mechanical/electrical, it will be a huge benefit for fixing some issues with Lenses and Cameras.
I have used this myself and repaired an older 300D (Canon) a Tamron Lense and had ideas for diy tilt lenses.

I had the impression they had a lot more camera models, but oh well. Considering changing my 350D to an IR camera. :D

An IR (or UV) camera would be so cool. I was going to convert my old G12, but I didn't.

The info is there for IR conversion on most of the Canon range, I have just done a 300D to IR. Weird shots can be had, just got to perfect it.

It's a tricky mod but do-able if you have some extremely small tools, good eyes and lots of patience!!!

Don't forget this mod is irreversible, unless you put the same IR blocking filter back in that you removed (hopefully you didn't break it!)

PS You can use a TV remote to illuminate stuff in the pitch dark and capture it without anyone knowing! rather stealth I reckon

The main issue is the construction of the sensor, during manufacture they install a ir blocking filter in front of the sensor to only allow the visible spectrum through to the sensor. The main reason is that CMOS/ccd sensors will receive light from a broader spectrum than the human eye! Ir filters will sort of work but will not give a true ir photo. If you grab your TVs remote and operate it , whilst pointing into your lense during a shoot you will see it illuminate in your photo, but unable to see the light if looking directly at with the human eye!
I have found that if you suspect there are ir sensors in buildings , try pointing your iPhone or camera at the suspected source and if you can pick it up on your photo it is active!!!

If you have a passive ir activated driveway light try it!!!
The results will vary according to the amount of ir filtering in your lense.

Passive IR sensors don't emit light unfortunately :(
