Been wanting to do this for sometime since the tonyrules/tubby1 debacle and the damage done to some places that I've explored in the past few years.

Since the changes to flickr there's lots of confusion on image permission.

Here's a bit of a primer with screenshots.

1. Click Edit at the top

2. Should see the following page below. Click Edit link

3. Select the one you want.

Now I do admit, I have not been truthful. I have many more images than the 300 advertised. And I wonder who/what is Dreadnought, Shining Hulk and Trunk?

You'll have to attend my meetups or expos to find out :)

Ever since the new lay out came out which is when i think they stopped offering pro accounts i got lazy and gave up trying to learn it all again.

I agree. Flickr is becoming more confusing to use.

Don't think I can turn this into a sticky thread. Maybe the admins can help out.

Just want to also mention you can change privacy settings on your pics when uploading a batch.

1. By default all uploads are set to "Public - visible to everyone".

2. Now click the "All" button. Then click the "edit" button next to "visible to everyone". This will show the full options for "Private - Friends or Only you". Now just select the one you want.

I guess the first question is why set pics to private when you want to show people your stuff? I just kind of prefer a bit of control on views. And unlike the others who I've noticed prefer having hundreds of facebook or instagram "likes", I prefer giving as little attention and detail as possible so that the location is protected for future explorers - while uploading pretty "average joe" pics. Just to be clear, I'm not against people trying to get likes as I'm sure they have their reasons for it, but be aware that has the potential to ruin the place for everyone else as I've discovered after doing revisits to various places.

Anyway, I'll now go back to uploading a new location soon!

This is a really good idea, Edge.

Is Dreadnought the one in Melbourne?

It's not that one in Melbourne where you could lethally poison yourself.

yep good work edge, think some people do give away a bit too much on Flickr
Like you, only 1/3 of my pics are visible - a lot of those are the crappy handheld/flash pics i stick on here now and then - don't want them to get mixed up with my like-whore type pics :D
and then there are the sets for places which are better kept fully private

Thanks all

And just another thing about Flickr is the Explore feature. It is a random algo that selects images into a pool which gets featured in the top 500. Then every pic fights for a spot based on interestingness. In reality the algo is a bit flawed in selecting the best pics as it's based on # of faves, comments and groups. Also award groups have a negative impact on getting to explore.

ie: Explore doesn't mean good photography!

I'd hate it if flickr explore showed off my pics (and I don't want the whole world to know where I've explored), so I've turned off public searches as well.

Always wondered how explore worked though for the opposite reasons like yourself. Nothing sh1ts more more about flickr (apart from people goving away too much) than seeing a stack of "this ....... photo has been seen on Random Sh1t Photos of Your Dog" attached to a (quite often crap) pic. Maybe coz I didnt get into the habit of sharing every pic with evevery photo group I could find. LOL?
