Ecotech Stroking?

My dad and I were thinking of stroking our ecotech v6. Has anyone done it/know anyone that has? Is it worth the cash?

UPDATE:
After a little more research we decided to get it. We got a full set of parts to support the kit in a really good deal. It arrived yesterday. :D

Stroking hasnt hurt anyone as yet... always good increase to be made.. my advise:

- stroke it
- nice good quality cams are a must
- arp head studs
- metal head gasket
- bigger injectors
- bigger pump
- re-tune
- full exhaust (headers included)

You will be laughing ;)

I looked into it a few years ago for my vq v6. The price out weighed the power gain. Kits may be cheaper these days.
I ended up just doing cam n lifters with a chip to suit, made 151rwhp.

An ecotec would make a fair bit more with similar cam specs.

Yeah dad's a mechanic by trade and a mate of a mate has some cheap kits. So that's why we're looking into it. They come with new bearings, rings, forged cons and pistons, a crank and a cam plus followers etc. So it's a pretty full kit. I read on some forums that the later eco's had accelerated bore wear due to the shorter pistons not staying straight with the increased stroke. But this kit comes with pistons so that should be negligible. We're only looking for a moderate power increase maybe to 250 - 300whp.

Good to see your being realistic with figures. I now have a 304 in a vh with a small 274 cam. Cant wait to get it on the road.

Oh really? That's awesome! That's the special V8 for the under 5L racing class right? Our eco is also in a VH. Definitely put it up here when it gets to that stage please. :D

Pics about 2 yrs old. Sadly still sitting in same condition. Now has alloy radiator, flattery in boot, fully wired, 6 cyl vl diff, shortened tail shaft, 85L tank, vt brakes convo, vn steering rack and k frame. Vn fuel lines + return line, twin pump set up from vn ( vp went big single intank pump).
Motors been freshened up with acl bearings n gaskets, grant rings, jp std pressure oil pump, jp twin row timing chain with multi keyway crank gear to adjust cam timing. Still running stock pistons and bore.
The engine builder was impressed how clean inside the motor was. It ran gas its whole life, already had stanless valves n hardened seats. Has dynotec cam 268 not 274 as prev quoted. Equiv cam as a 200kw vp hsv. Biggest cam possiable for a stock motor but very small in the world of cams. 200rwhp was the goal n i achieved it for under $1300. Project has taken 6 years so far, but thats what happens when you have kids:)

Update.

Got rego n mod plate two days before my wedding in nov so I could use it as a wedding car. Only done a 1000k so far, so its due for a oil change. No probs so far except a dud hose clamp.
Best consumption so far 12.7/100
Worst 22/100(first tank).
I'm in much need of an LSD :)

That is one nice clean bay. Mirin that paint condition too, but now that Miata...

I just sold my Mk3 Golf and I'm thinking whether I should get a Mk3 VR6 or go back to JDM and try for a DC2R/DC5S.

I'd go for the VR6 but I am slightly biased! got 3 VW's atm, and previously owned 3 others so all in 6 VW's and I love em!!!
Oldest is a 64 Beetle I restored about 2yrs ago!!

Kind Regards

Holy crap, a '64 Beetle?! I can't even imagine the work restoring one of those. Pics please. :D

Only thing with the VR6s is I haven't found a clean one in NSW yet, and that they also have a bit more understeer from the heavier block. But... V6 in a hatch. Mmm. The R32 is even crazier with its V6 and AWD, but I'm not a big fan of that generation. It's either Mk3 or Mk7 for me.

The Integras have a bit too much boy racer, but they handle well and have a good aftermarket following. I'm all for unique cars. =( But I just love the DC2R (DC5 is a second choice).

What do you think of a Mk7? I also heard there were DSG problems? My Mk3 was manual, but not sure which transmission I'll get at the moment.
