new toy

so today i picked up a new toy a dji phantom and gopro hero 3+ over the next few days i will be doing some test flights to see battery life and controls. was just wondering if anyone knows of a large open drain near parramatta or close by to take some practice flights in before i try the more complex stuff.

Are you new to quads?
If your completely new to quads or rc don't even think about trying to fly it in a drain before you have a decant amount of experience flying it in all kinds of different situations. Dji makes great stuff i have the naza in one of my quads and sure its incredibly stable but if your a beginner its easy to overcompensate for a gust of wind in a drain or lose concentration for a second and wreck your phantom pretty bad because theres very little room for error.

yeah i new to them. i have done a few practice flights and am not too bad with the controls. the phantom is pretty indestructable i have crashed from about 35 meters in the air when i forgot to tighten a proopellor nut and it came plumetting down to the ground nothing broke and ive crashed into things at work and no damage on phantom.

Ah yeah sounds like lots of fun, your right these things are pretty tough, i picked up a carbon fibre frame for my mini quad and now its pretty much indestructible. Its so fun flying through a bunch of trees or trying to fly through a hole in a fence knowing if you crash you can just pick it up and go again. You might want to look at building something like the foam surround that goes around the props on the ar drone. It might save you some props/reduce damage in the long run if you want to video in drains.

and with the gopro i have a app on my phone so i can see what it sees which helps with flying
