Windsor's rum smuggling tunnels

Hey everyone

I'm only very new to urbex and i haven't done much exploring yet, but i guess you have to start somewhere..

Ive recently come across some information that talks about two separate "rum smuggling" tunnels located in Windsor, in Sydney's North West. They're believed to have been created to smuggle rum from the nearby Hawkesbury River to the Macquarie Arms Hotel. It is also believed these tunnels would have been created just before 1815.

The two tunnels should run parallel to each other in streets located next to each other. ( I have the names of the streets). One of the tunnels is believed to be 8ft x 10ft and constructed of brick.

It seems like little effort has been put in to actually discover their existence, has anyone heard about these before?

P.s Thanks to Spades for linking me to this great site.

Cheers.

Never heard about them but I live 20minutes away so it would be interesting to find out if they're legit :)

Oh man, I've been on so many adventures based on rumors and hearsay.

Sorry to stomp on your parade, but that concrete box is probably not what you're looking for, it's cast with fairly modern concrete, and it has ridges that look like it's been done with roofing material as the cast.

Could you contact the hotel and ask if you can have a poke around in their basement?

Maybe a late reply but as i was born in Windsor in the early 80s, yes you are correct about tunnels in the area but there are alot of tunnels around the Hawkesbury district, including tunnels for the convicts and servants and one tunnel that you can see from the road is behind the big white house behind the RAAF Base Richmond. Hope this helps
