Thanks Midget,Midget wrote:Wow, that is some cool stuff. I should probably learn to do some ropes and harnesses for safety but need some gear first.
Welcome to UEGA!
That sounds amazing. Let me know when you're free via here/PM.RooMar wrote:Thanks Midget,Midget wrote:Wow, that is some cool stuff. I should probably learn to do some ropes and harnesses for safety but need some gear first.
Welcome to UEGA!
If you want some training, I'm a qualified instructor. Just grab a cheep harness ($100 for a decent Petzl climbing harness) and I have more than enough gear to take you out and... Show you the ropes... (Sorry, I couldn't help it).
This goes for anyone whose interested.
Wow, Yea, I havn't been around much lately, work has completely swamped me (Add moving house and moving offices to that too). I'm hoping to get back to some form of normality soon (Or loose whats left of my mind and become one of the people living in abandoned buildings waiting to chase you little bastards out with a board with a nail in it...).Midget wrote: That aside, have you noticed how far apart our replies are?
Yes, definitely keep us informed on that! I love old theatres and shoot a lot of theatre professionally but never get the chance to explore - always someone asking me if I'm supposed to be here.RooMar wrote:Thanks Chrisyelroy and Urbane.
Unfortunately for the next few weeks I'm pretty locked down with work, but hopefully there are some impromptu afternoon adventures between jobs. But I'm working with a friend on something that could be very exciting, involving one of the old theatres in Sydney and what lays beneath it... I'll keep you all informed.
Hehe, I used to do this for work, mrbolano wrote:Yes, definitely keep us informed on that! I love old theatres and shoot a lot of theatre professionally but never get the chance to explore - always someone asking me if I'm supposed to be here.RooMar wrote:Thanks Chrisyelroy and Urbane.

I know there's a space under the main stage of the State Theatre that holds all the parts for the theatres former pipe organ. Love to see that!
I've spent a fair bit of time down there, including working on a restoration project that involved replacing and restoring said organ. There is a treasure trove down there, a lot of the old infrastructure is still there, such as the old ammonia air conditioner, and the 1918 Deutz submarine engine that was used as a backup generator until the late 90s. I ran the team servicing the flys for the first time the place opened in the 20s. We replaced a few hundred hand made bow shackles, I have a couple on my desk, they are so beautiful.mrbolano wrote: I know there's a space under the main stage of the State Theatre that holds all the parts for the theatres former pipe organ.
