This thing looks incredible, Has anyone on here ever been in this?
Did a heap of research and have found where it is, is it even possible to get access to now and if it is is it worth the effort?

The outlet is just an overflow for the dam around it, an abseil is optional, you can just climb through the other end, or at least you could.

Would work out well as a combined EUGA Syd / Melb / Can meetup if anyone would be up for an expo with a shitton of driving?

I just googled it, if you look it up on google maps you can see the outlet of the pipe is like 500m west of the funnel part so it would be easy to get into. Also looking on street view you can see the road that takes you there doesn't appear to be fenced off, it's actually got one of those brown tourist signs encouraging people to go down there.

Also there's a lot of pics of people skating it from the outlet side so I'm assuming entry isn't that difficult.

I'd love to go visit, shame it's such a long drive from...anywhere!

Well if you want to do it you'd need to do it soon. The roads to it get closed off during winter.
It would definetly be an overnighter trip.

It's been a while since I've been up that way, I'm just talking to some buddies about when we'll go, PM me if you're interested in coming,

Panic, roughly when do they close off the roads, and how "closed" are we talking? Signs saying no? Gates? Impenetrable roads?

Also, I believe the tunnel is only 205m.

The roads are some of the highest in the country and during the snow season some get closed due to snow. Also occasionally there are landslides. One of which closed the road during the Easter long week end. The last 120-150 kms are really windy mountain roads and the last 25 km are dirt roads. You can do it in a 2wd in summer, but 4wd is needed in winter. If itsnows, don't bother.

My GF and I are definitely interested, but it looks like we might have missed it for this year.

Yeah, I can't imagine doing it before December unless we get crazy and head down there this week end.

The roads have been closed since last year, even in the summer there is no "official" way to get in.

I'm off to Europe soon, we still haven't received the rope, so I doubt we'll go before spring.

I am in. And I can confirm that I can get some ropes, as long as it isn't an abseil over 150m...
Yeah, we would also need a lift form Sydney, if anyone could help us out on that one.

I believe its a little under 100m.

I can't stress enough, that this abseil must not be done on standard dynamic rope.

chrisyelroy I mean no disrespect, but after having read a number of your posts I am a little sceptical about the quality of your equipment, and your skill level. Please don't do anything beyond your experience.

I've had to order 200m of Beal Super Static (F%*k me if that didn't cost a lot)

I think I'll leave it 'till later in the year, fingers crossed we'll have a few more dirt bikes up and running,

I have a friend who works up there (well the area) and says the roads to it are pretty shitty right now. Lots of snow. He said January and Febuary are best times to go up that way.

Lol, I just left all the equipment at Scarecrow's place, but he'll upload a photo of just how extensive our equipment is sometime. He is heavily involved in an activity where he deals with ropes intensively on a regular basis. Also, as you can also see on the forum...he knows his s***. He has helped me out in countless situations and I'd put my trust in his hands any day including a wee little 100m abseil (which we have done similar and bigger).
But thank you for your concern bro!
