Motorised Bicycles

Does anyone here have experience building bicycles and general engine setup? I've been thinking about mating a cheap bicycle such as this one from Big W and a 66cc engine kit designed for bicycles. While both seem possible within my skill level, it wouldn't hurt to have some help, particularly with this other modification (SBP Shift Kit).

End product something like this ... hopefully;

That it is, though you wouldn't want to go too fast since bicycles with motors are only legal if the output is equal or less than 200w. Pretty much all petrol engines above 30cc go way over that, which is the fun part. :D

Maybe if I find a cheap BMX bicycle with a large enough frame to fit an engine, could totally coast down drains on it. Though maybe an electric engine would be better, except the battery itself costs upward of half a grand.

Dude don't skimp on bike costs it is the foundation of what you are trying to build. You obviously don't need a beast of a bike but you know what I am trying to get at. Also go electric, that would be awesome, it would also be a good challenge to see how much power and/or efficiency you can eek out of it.

Preferably, I'd buy a better bicycle, but I just don't have the money. Though I do think I'll get a Repco Torrent, still from Big W, still made in China, but has a slightly more suited frame.

As for electric engines, the battery itself costs $900.

Still, I don't plan to commute on the bicycle, it's more of a fun project, so the quality of the bicycle itself as much of a variable as it would be. As long as it doesn't fall apart suddenly, it's alright. Pretty much as long as the frame is good. Most of the other parts will be replaced.

I had my son's 24 inch Mongoose BMX converted to electric power. 200w brushless hub motor, 36v 14Ah lithium-ion Battery, throttle control, & battery life indicator.
Cost about $1k to convert, but well worth it. I barely use my car or motorbike these days.
Does about 35-40kph top speed, pulls strong up steep hills, range is about 40-50kms with some light peddling, & it's silent! Nothing beats the look on their faces when I overtake guys in tights riding $5000 Italian Racing bikes on my BMX. And you can ride on beach sand due to being 2 wheel drive (front hub is powered)
I got mine from these guys http://www.sydneyelectricbikes.com.au but you can pick them up cheap off Fleabay & Scumtree etc.
I will post up a pic of my bike when I get home later.

Disclaimer: I have no association with the above bike shop other than being a happy customer.
