Random stall/knock/power loss/puttering, ODBII has thrown a couple of cylinder missfires on #1 and crankshaft position codes.
Can reproduce the error within seconds when on gas, when on petrol I got about 10km out of it before it started playing up.
Flipped back to petrol, idled in peak hour traffic and the check engine light went off and then I was fine.

Don't care what the problem is as long as it doesn't need a timing chain kit.

Ah fair enough.... you'll need a multimeter. The service manual (I'm sure there'd be a .Pdf or two floating around) Will tell you how many ohms to test for. Only problem is they tend to screw up when they're hot, so it's a bit tricky to be certain if the reading is perfectly accurate. But Commodores are pretty bloody notorious for having them fail.
Just like '31 Skylines always have crank angle sensors fail repeatedly. One of those common Gremlins!
So anyways that def be my first guess, best of luck with it anyway :)

Well, I have a multimeter and a service manual... no mention of resistance values but i could probe them all and see whats different.
Found this... hopefully its good info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbJkoX_I_WM

Would be a fun process to go through but I'm happy to just throw money at the problem for now, not so happy I'll have to drop the car off at 8am after spending the weekend at soundwave.

Welp, not goin to go to the hassle of lifting all this nonsense up to get access to the coils... I did however re-plug the ones I saw werent clipped in and clipped them in.

oohh gas injection! my favorite, as you mentioned earlier these were known for stretching timing chains thus the 3 sensors become out of time and would create misfires and do silly things but this usually would throw a powertrain code, is it an issue on gas petrol or both? also iridium plugs are good for 100k but gas will lower life expectancy, and are a b***h to do on these with the removing of the inlet manifold etc. your in nsw yea?

Seems to be an issue with both after about 15mins running, it seems to recover easier on petrol though.
Just enough time to get from the gfs place to mine which is lucky.
I'm in Vic.

As I experience more cars though, the 4 cylinder VTEC whine really sounds like an excited lawnmower.

If Top Gear's anything to go off, lawnmowers can be pretty quick!

Get one of those Accord V6 engines, start with an actual one. ;) V6 VTEC then twin charge it. Get UEL headers, which will detract from the performance a little, but will sound awesome. Then put a screamer pipe on it. So when you hit turbo + vtec, your ears will bleed with pleasure + supercharger whine.
