Old orange filter for 70s style sunsets which I use for torch warmth

Canon 7D w/ grip + any combination of the following
Canon 24mm F1.4L (usually keep this on camera)
Canon 50mm F1.2L
Canon 17-40 F4L
Canon 430EXII Flash
cheap Silk branded tripod

I have other camera gear however its largely useless underground (e.g. 70-200 etc)

That fixed 50mm and 24mm must be super sharp lenses, especially for video.

The 24 is very sharp, the 50 not so much. I don't do a lot with video, but the problem with these lenses is no stabilisation..

I want to start doing a bit of photography along with UE, at the moment, I'm just using a cheap digital camera, more to record the fact I was there than any artistic thing. I'm considering a 1100D or 550D/600D, as my budget is quite low. Right now, I'm pretty bad at taking photos, so the difference between the two cameras will probably be negligible for me. What I want to know, is if I do become better, will there be enough of a difference in quality, that I might as well save up a bit longer to get the 550D/600D?

I'm also really impatient, so probably end up getting 1100D, but it's not *that* bad, right?

EDIT: Alright, getting a 600D today or tomorrow. Ordering it from some duty-free online shop, it's cheaper by like $100-ish and seems trust-worthy.

Got a Nikon D90, my favourite lens to use in the 50 mm f1.8. Also got the 18-105 mm kit lens and a 70-300mm.

Need to save the $$ for a good wide angle lens

I have pretty much the same setup, love my d90 but want more resolution and slightly better sensor for long exposures.

Hey hawkeye...a good option for long exposures (by this I mean minutes or hours) to get an intervalometer (say something like this http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/pro ... 52d36.html) and then take multiple 15s exposures, then use a image stacking program such as startrails (see below) to make one photo

http://www.startrails.de/html/software.html

This was my first attempt at star trails and it was a full moon so there was a lot of light pollution but came out ok....I need to try again when they sky is dark

Go one step further and get a lense for the iPhone.. dont laugh you cna get these on ebay :D
Really, have to check that one out.
I use my Sony Xperia, which has a 10 megapixel camera, 25gb internal memory. Not really into mainstream cameras plus I like to travel light.

Edit - Found a nice lense and tripod (tall one) might have to get these :-)

I got me a 7d a few weeks back. Also got a 50mm f1.8 though I still mostly use my 10-22mm for urbex stuff. I'm getting a 70-300mm IS L in a few weeks for wildlife too :D

I'm considering upgrading to a 7d actually. How have you found it?

Yeah the 50mm on a crop body is probably too long for most urbex photography.

I love it man - upgrading from the 1100d goes without saying. But honestly, I try to take this thing with me everywhere. I also shoot nature photography so a cropped sensor is a no-brainer for me. Due to this I'll not being going full frame any time in the foreseeable future. Getting that extra 1.6x out of every lens is very useful, particularly for birding etc. If I was only interested in urbex, architecture or portraits etc. I think I would have waited and saved up for a 5d mk III. Then again, the 10-22mm on the 7d gives me more than enough field of view for even the tightest spaces.

I'm currently using a Nikon D5100 with the standard twin lens kit as well as a 35mm 1.8 lens, though I did manage to get a 10 stop ND filter stuck on it so its now only good for day time long exposures.

Yeah I'd say that's what happened, I just put the filter on and couldn't get it off. After taking it to the camera shop they said the only thing they could do was smash the filter.

Well if it means you can put other filters on again, why didn't you? I'm sure a 10 stop ND doesn't cost THAT much right?
