Conflict of interest

I love UE. It drives me. But I have signed up for a new job where doing illegal stuff is a conflict of interest. I'm not sure if I will get the new job, but if I do, it means that for a while at least any UE will be a no go. That sucks.

Have others handled such a conflict of interest before? If so, how? It would be great to have the best of both worlds.

Plenty of jobs where doing illegal stuff isn't quite cool. But this is urbex, it's not like you're moonlighting as a car thief in your spare time. A lot of it is technically illegal but then again no one gives a s***. One of the guys at my New Years Gath is in the military. Plenty of other people I know who balance urbex and their jobs without issues. Maybe you have to tone it down a bit. Do the stuff where people really don't care. And don't mention it to anyone you work with. What they don't know cant hurt them.
Of course if the job is worth that much to you then it may not be worth taking the risk at all no matter how small the chances of something bad happening are. I'd say settle into the new job (if you get it). Figure out the lay of the land and how far you can actually push the boundaries.
Honestly though there's few jobs I'd give up exploring for, there are a couple though. Or atleast I'd give up most everything except drains. Drains are always fair game. Lowest on the list of anyone giving a s***. If you have to give away your biggest hobby then what are you even working for. What are you going to do in your downtime? Take up checkers, or better yet chess maybe.
Jobs are typically supposed to be things you do to be able to carry on doing the things you actually want to be doing.
Anyhow that's my 2 cents. I thankfully haven't been faced with that conundrum just yet.
Wander often. Wonder always.

I had a federal goverment job in the 2000s (IT analyst) and I continued to do urbex, smoke weed, race street luge on public roads, sell some things I wasn't supposed to, all sorts of stuff that were considered a breach of contract or COI. Worked there for seven years. I signed some stuff to the same effect as you are, but just kept my nose clean enough that it wasn't a problem. Sort of. I was arrested twice for little stuff while working there, it never made it back to my boss. After that I went into skifields and actually cleaned up my act a bit, opposite of what you'd expect since nobody cares what you do in your spare time in those jobs.

These days I work in construction.. I am physically very recognisable makig sneaking into construction sites not the best idea so I'll probably avoid that part of urbex (apart from the little reccie you sent me on the other day:).

A job is a job and there's always others, your passions are what make you who you are. These types of clauses are there so the organisation can terminate you if you behave in a manner that may affect the organisation.. it's fair enough, but also not an issue unless they want you gone.

In most email systems, your email administrator can access your emails. We use Microsoft Exchange and I am able to give myself access to my staff's mailboxes if I need it.

Don't use your work email for personal stuff.

Agree with this, I don't understand why people do it? I've seen coworkers from all my prior jobs sign up to stuff using their work email etc. And whilst that's not technically against a code of conduct, it's pretty silly.

Yeah it was a mistake..., its not technically an email monitored by my work so it should be fine?

Unless you have a job with a security clearance your work probably does not care enough to read your emails. They probably just have keyword searches for porn style words. But hey, what's your email address? I'll send you some dodgy stuff and if they ask about it you'll know.
