The oversized drain

Found this over sized drain in the bush yesterday. I don't think it was ever intended for cars, too bumpy, and the cement has a 10 degree inward slant suggesting it was for water. A 2 foot pipe would have worked here, as there has been so little water flow 4 year old graffiti has no signs of water damage, perhaps it was a 'just in case' drain for apocalyptic rain?

You will see an oversized drain when you see Eternity or Glory Hole.

Nice find.

I can't quite make out from the photos, but is the concrete floor newer than the ancient-looking brickwork?

Given the way the rocks are carved out to a similar width before the tunnel starts, I'm wondering if it was originally some form of narrow-gauge (mining?) railway tunnel that fell into disuse, and got converted into a drain.

If this is the Blue Mountains, there would have been a lot of mining operations once active in the area.

Also, Limp Bizkit - what a blast from the past! =)

The cement certainly has the potential of being a newer addition. As for the rock, I was very curious about this too, as it is carved out like this for around 10m. But that is the problem, it is carved for 10m, then stops, plus the ground is sporadic bits of big rock, but a good theory none the less.

[quote="timdole"]Met up with Darkclarky a lil while back, and after giving me a few pointers, I've now got a few drains under my belt. While exploring, I came across this:
