Along with all the old public housing terraces on the Sydney Harbour foreshore, the control tower at Barangaroo is also being demolished.

It's amazing how there was no consultation or even a heritage assessment of the area. Even London brings in historians, archaeologists and geophysicists to inspect the area for a few months before doing construction work in case there is anything of historic significance.

Sorry for the rant, I'll get off the soap box now :)

It all comes down to how much the developer wants to bribe the council. If they can't do it properly someone will do the dodge. There was a demo company in Brisbane who was well known for doing overnight demo of buildings which were listed as heritage etc.

It happens all over. I read this article on the BBC website about the Melbourne city council selling laneways. Its funny that I read it on a British news site and have not seen it in a local paper yet:

theedge don't apologise for that rant at all. It is well justified! We in Brisbane are frequently let down with nearly everything of historical value being demolished, simply because the mayor wants to make more from business and/or housing taxes. It's a crying shame. We feel your pain mate!
